Toodles... FOR NOW

Hello all.  Due to life getting in the way, I have, as I'm sure you've noticed, neglected this blog for quite some time.  I never gave a proper good-bye, and I feel like that was unfair to my followers, even if I only have a few.  Besides, anyone who comes across this page should at least know what's up.

So, life is still enough for me right now. I don't have time to maintain this blog for the time being.  I would say that I am most likely to pick up the blogging habit in a couple years (a long while away, I know) when I graduate. I have definitely grown, and have improved my drawing skills and fashion sense and picture taking, etc.  Geez, even my music tastes have changed.  This blog reflects the younger me, so, perhaps this little blog will get a nice and much needed reboot when that fateful day comes.

I do want you guys to be able to know that I am still living and breathing and drawing and styling and such.  So, if you would like to keep up with me or ask me any questions or get a glimpse into my personal life, you can follow me on Instagram:

Thank you so much for all the support you've given me.  When I logged on today, I was amazed at all the views and reactions I'd received while absent.  It's a wonderful feeling.  Thank you again, and I'll see you soon.

Skin Care

How to get awesome, soft skin...
  • Cleanse your skin both Morning and Evening with soap free body wash, water, and a soft, squishy sponge.
  • Exfoliate about once a week!
  • Pat dry with a fluffy towel- don't scrub or even rub, because that can cause you to have more wrinkles as you age.
  • Before you leave the steamy bathroom, moisturize your skin by applying body oil, lotion, cream, etc. Preferably, this should be done within three minutes of exiting the shower, because your pores are open and your skin moist.
  • Ever wonder why babies have such soft skin? It's because they haven't been exposed to the harmful UV rays given off by the sun. Wear sunscreen to prevent the damage those rays can cause.
  • Drink lots of water.
  • Don't smoke- it deprives your skin of nutrients and contributes to wrinkles.
  • Take short, warm showers instead of long, hot showers, which remove the oils from your skin.
  • Manage your stress.
  • Lastly, eat a healthy diet.
Enjoy these tips; they should leave your skin radiant and beautiful. Kiss kiss!

London Summer Olympics 2012

2012 U.S. Olympic Uniforms

What an exciting time!  The 2012 Summer Olympics have officially begun!  As each participating country marched with their respective flag, people all over the world were able to see Ralph Lauren's designs for the U.S. Olympic team’s opening ceremonies uniforms. They featured smart berets, neckties, and double-breasted blazers in a nautical blue and white outfit with red accents. Ever since being debuted by the company, a copious amount of American citizens have criticized the uniforms because of their preppy look, their French-inspired berets, their oversized Ralph Lauren logo on each blazer, and the fact that every single item of clothing was made in China.  While many were frustrated by the uniforms, some people were completely outraged and wanted the uniforms redone altogether.
Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid, told ABC News that the uniforms should be burned.
“If they have to wear nothing but a symbol that says USA on it, painted by hand, that is what they should wear."
Others were also offended that the uniforms wouldn’t benefit the American textile industry.  Regardless, the U.S. Olympic Committee has defended the uniforms and stood by Ralph Lauren.  This isn't the first time that the ‘Made in China’ issue has come up, either.  The exact same thing occurred in 2008, when Ralph Lauren created the Olympic team’s uniforms, also manufactured in China.  However, Ralph Lauren has since announced that the uniforms it provides the U.S. Olympic team at the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, will be made in the United States.

So what do you think?  Was the huge Ralph Lauren logo on each blazer too much?  Was it a big deal that the uniforms were made in China?  And the big question: should the uniforms have been used this year at all?  Tell me your thoughts below.

Happy First Birthday, Fashion Candy!

Wow, where does the time go?  It's hard to believe a whole year has gone by since I sat at my dining room table one night and created the blog Fashion Candy.  I've enjoyed every bit of this blog and I hope there are many more years of writing about fabulous fashion!!  In honor of this special day, I decided I'd post one of the biggest posts I've ever done, covering clothes, sketches, and more!  I'll start off with my favorite skirt.  I got it at a little boutique called Peter's Path, and I love it to death!  It's a beautiful knee length skirt that wraps around the waist, with 3-D sequin flowers and beads on the front.  Take a look!  ;)

So cute, right?  You can see more of their stuff on their Facebook page. So, next I'm going to share my top five favorite nail polishes!

NYC's just that reliable, cheap nail polish that I can turn to when I want something that works, and doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

Fairly new, this nail polish is awesome, and does quite well with one coat.  I love the color choices Maybelline offers, too!

First of all, I love Wet n Wild products.  They work so well, considering the low price.  I never, ever pay too much for Wet n Wild products, yet they work like magic.  This stuff's perfect for a base coat and comes in plenty of sassy colors.

OPI is just all around fantastic, and even though I just listed one product, I love a lot of their stuff.  For instance, I like Nichole by OPI too, and the crackle is great if you want some texture.  OPI may not be the cheapest, let's just be honest.  But, if you want a polish that stays on, probably longer than I've ever seen, this stuff works.
My favorite brand is back once more!!  Wet n Wild Megalast is some of the best stuff ever.  It comes with a manicure brush, so all that is required for each nail is one to two strokes!  It's thick and it lasts long.  You won't clean out your wallet to buy this stuff, either.  It's usually only one or two dollars!
Alright, so the only reason this didn't make the list is because it's the only Milani (and Milani Jewel Lacquer) product I have.  It works great, and it's probably my favorite individual nail polish, but I haven't had experience with enough Milani Jewel FX products to vouch on their reliability.  I really wanna try more, though, and I'd like to get some regular Milani nail polish.  This bottle of polish rocks, so I bet their other products do, too!

Now, we move on to a sketch I made.  I love the silver bottom of this dress (I used a silver gel pen to make it sparkly), and I'd love to own these shoes.  Alas, until I am able to call them mine, they shall only be a sketch, a dream, a desire.  Poetic, huh?  ;)  Anyway, I'd like a dress like this to go to a party or enjoy a night on the town.  What do you think?

Lastly, I have the following:
  • Eat foods like salmon, nuts, whole grains, and poultry.
  • Mash a ripe avacado with one egg, and apply it to wet hair to restore its luster.
  • Wrap wet hair in a towel and let it absorb some of the moisture to prevent split ends.  Don't rub it!
  • Use a humidifier in your room.
  • If you wear ponytails, never pull them back too tightly; this puts a lot of stress on your hair.

Well, I hope you all enjoyed Fashion Candy's first year of fashion!  I can't wait for you all to see what I have in store for this year!  ;)

Interior Lovin' #4

Hey everybody!  I realize I haven't done an Interior Lovin' in awhile, so I think the time has come to post another.  :) This, my comrades, is a fake chandelier that I have hanging in my room.  It's got a velvety feel to it, and then it has beads that drape down and hang from the ends of the chandelier!  I love having this, because it adds a nice piece of glam to my room, while also not going over the top with a full, glitzy chandelier on my ceiling (not saying I wouldn't totally enjoy that, though)!  The black's a nice touch too; it's much more striking and noticiable that way, I think.  When people come into my room, it's often the first thing they see; it's a real eye-catcher.  What do you think?  Sophisticated, funky, or just odd?  I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Betsey Johnson's "Fancy Face" Hand Bag

So, as you guys know, I am an avid Betsey Johnson fan.  I saw this purse at her store in the mall a few months ago, and I knew that it was love at first sight.  Here's the thing: I knew I could make a purse like this!  So, I walked out of that store with a mission.  I will make this cheesin' awesome "Fancy Face" bag.  Since then, the design has been discontinued, but you really can make yourself this loveliness.  All I did was take some denim from the legs of an old pair of jeans, buy some black fringe, and use some sparkly thick red fabric for the lips.  I found a pretty little navy blue bow in my Big Bag O' Fabrics, used a gem for its center, and attached it all with fabric glue.  I also had it sewn with a plain black zipper and a keychain loop is its zipper handle!  (People who aren't so sew savvy can just buy a bag and use the almighty fabric glue I've grown so close to.)  Here's what you do:
  • Take your denim and cut it up into two rectangular pieces of the same size.
  • Grab your Singer, slices, and zipper, and throw down!  After you've sewn together you denim pieces and added the zipper, you get to the fun part.
  • Cut the red fabric into some lips.
  • Cut the black fringe into two, even pieces.  These will be your lush lashes.
  • I didn't add eyebrows, but you could bejewel some if you want to!  ;)
  • If you're using a bow, go ahead and stick a gem onto the center to add some style.
  • Okay, so this is where my little friend Fabric Glue comes in.  Glue down the lips, lashes, and little bow.
  • Let them dry for... I'd say at least seven hours.  (I know you're just dying to walk out of the house carrying that thing as soon as possible!)
  • Then, you're ready to go, and show the world your awesome creativity!!

Art-i-cake Jewelry

A collage of art-i-cake jewelry
On June 1, 2012, I was giddy with delight as I read the newest post on the Art By Amy Facebook Page.  It made my day when Amy Labbe, creator of Art By Amy, wrote that her "new line of jewelry and components" would hit "MICHAELS stores across AMERICA (and canada!)" that very day!  And, by June 15, every Michael's would be blessed with her legit jewelry.

For those of you who don't know, Amy is a spunky pink-haired jewelry guru, with her own busy-ness called "Art By Amy".  She sells her unique charms and pieces all across America.  Her stuff is so creative, big, and different (I like that kinda stuff.), and now her new line, art-i-cake, is at Michael's!! It was FINALLY put on display in my local Michael's yesterday, and the stuff is pretty sweet!  Here are just a few of the beauties I noticed:

You can see what Amy's all about here, at her website, or here, on her Facebook page.  For the website based soley on Art-i-cake, click here.  For Art-i-cake's Facebook page, click here.
