Happy First Birthday, Fashion Candy!

Wow, where does the time go?  It's hard to believe a whole year has gone by since I sat at my dining room table one night and created the blog Fashion Candy.  I've enjoyed every bit of this blog and I hope there are many more years of writing about fabulous fashion!!  In honor of this special day, I decided I'd post one of the biggest posts I've ever done, covering clothes, sketches, and more!  I'll start off with my favorite skirt.  I got it at a little boutique called Peter's Path, and I love it to death!  It's a beautiful knee length skirt that wraps around the waist, with 3-D sequin flowers and beads on the front.  Take a look!  ;)

So cute, right?  You can see more of their stuff on their Facebook page. So, next I'm going to share my top five favorite nail polishes!

NYC's just that reliable, cheap nail polish that I can turn to when I want something that works, and doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

Fairly new, this nail polish is awesome, and does quite well with one coat.  I love the color choices Maybelline offers, too!

First of all, I love Wet n Wild products.  They work so well, considering the low price.  I never, ever pay too much for Wet n Wild products, yet they work like magic.  This stuff's perfect for a base coat and comes in plenty of sassy colors.

OPI is just all around fantastic, and even though I just listed one product, I love a lot of their stuff.  For instance, I like Nichole by OPI too, and the crackle is great if you want some texture.  OPI may not be the cheapest, let's just be honest.  But, if you want a polish that stays on, probably longer than I've ever seen, this stuff works.
My favorite brand is back once more!!  Wet n Wild Megalast is some of the best stuff ever.  It comes with a manicure brush, so all that is required for each nail is one to two strokes!  It's thick and it lasts long.  You won't clean out your wallet to buy this stuff, either.  It's usually only one or two dollars!
Alright, so the only reason this didn't make the list is because it's the only Milani (and Milani Jewel Lacquer) product I have.  It works great, and it's probably my favorite individual nail polish, but I haven't had experience with enough Milani Jewel FX products to vouch on their reliability.  I really wanna try more, though, and I'd like to get some regular Milani nail polish.  This bottle of polish rocks, so I bet their other products do, too!

Now, we move on to a sketch I made.  I love the silver bottom of this dress (I used a silver gel pen to make it sparkly), and I'd love to own these shoes.  Alas, until I am able to call them mine, they shall only be a sketch, a dream, a desire.  Poetic, huh?  ;)  Anyway, I'd like a dress like this to go to a party or enjoy a night on the town.  What do you think?

Lastly, I have the following:
  • Eat foods like salmon, nuts, whole grains, and poultry.
  • Mash a ripe avacado with one egg, and apply it to wet hair to restore its luster.
  • Wrap wet hair in a towel and let it absorb some of the moisture to prevent split ends.  Don't rub it!
  • Use a humidifier in your room.
  • If you wear ponytails, never pull them back too tightly; this puts a lot of stress on your hair.

Well, I hope you all enjoyed Fashion Candy's first year of fashion!  I can't wait for you all to see what I have in store for this year!  ;)

Weekday Sketch Shindig #2: Friday

It's Friday, Friday!  It's also the last day of this Sketch Shindig. :( Let's try to make it memorable!  So, what you see here is a one-shoulder pink dress with a split on one side, paired with black boots.  I love this outfit, because it's stunning, something I would imagine on a runway.  Oh, and I love pink, so, yeah, that's another perk. ;)  Well, I hope you enjoyed this week's Sketch Shindig!  Until next time!

Weekday Sketch Shindig #2: Thursday

Heyo!  Today's sketch is a beutimous latte-colored dress, gathered at the sleeves and waist.  This is honestly one of my favorite sketches.  So elegant!  So majestic!  I just can't get enough! ;)

Weekday Sketch Shindig #2: Wednesday

Ah!  This sketch shindig is halfway over now.  Sigh...  At least we shall cherish these few moments that we did have...  Anyway...

What you're makin' google eyes at is a pretty yellow dress with a black belt.  Simple yes, but gorgeous?  Also yes.

Weekday Sketch Shindig #2: Tuesday

Happy Tuesday!  Today's sketch makes me think... preppy.  From the knee high socks to the argyle-like pattern she's wearing, I just get that vibe, you know? :)  It's sophisticated with a touch of angles, diamonds, and boldness.  Hee hee!

Weekday Sketch Shindig #2: Monday

Well howdy, fellow followers!  Now, I know Mondays are normally drab and unexciting, but not this time, because today starts Fashion Candy's second Weekday Sketch Shindig!  As was before, I will be posting a different sketch everyday for your enjoyment.  Don't be shy to comment on them and tell me what you think, either!  Oh, and if you have your own idea for a sketch, simply click on the tab up top that reads "Suggest A Sketch", and I may be more than happy to oblige!  Anyway, this is, in my opinion, one of my best sketches ever.  It depicts a blue dress with orange polkadots and a white bottom, paired with a sunhat, two large orange bracelets, and some wedges with lace going up part of the legs.  This would be such an adorable outfit for the upcoming Summer!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Whew!  This time of year is always crazy, but it's always a blast.  However, I have had no time to post anything since last year.  Haha, I crack myself up.  Plus, the internet enjoys my suffering, so it has taken the oppertunity to slash my connection to it, making any chance of a quick post impossible.  At least I occasionally get access.  So, Merry Late Christmas and Happy Past New Year!

This is from a past Christmas, before I began blogging.  It's another one of those trace the model, design your own dress kind of things.

You may wonder why I'm showing you a box.  A present.  With a handle.  Here's why.  It's no present.  It's a cheddarlicious PURSE.  A purse that is without a doubt carried wherever I go during the holidays.  It's made by the brand Hartstrings, and it's the perfect accessory!

Fireworks to ring off the New Year!

Okay, so I don't make New Year's Resolutions, but if it'll suit your fancy, I'll attempt one.  My 2012 New Year's Resolution is... TO POST MORE OFTEN!  Lame, but I would like to take more time to post on this blog.  So you guys are going to have to hold me to this!

A Little Sketch How-To #1

So, I decided that I would show you guys a behind-the-scenes look on how to make a sketch, (simplified, of course).  Without further ado...

First, you need to outline the model of your outfit.  In order for you to see how I drew it, I had to darken it, but normally it should be done lightly.  I've done better; I was kind of in a rush! :)

Next, draw the outfit.  Again, this should regularly be done lightly, and the following step is the reason.

Afterwards, erase uneeded lines under the outfit.

Now, pick the base colors of your outfit.  Will it be pink?  Will it be blue?  You decide!

Add the details, textures, and shading to your design.  Finally, gawk at its cheese'n glory!

Weekday Sketch Shindig #1: Friday

Ah, and so as the sun must set on a perfect day, so must this first Weekday Sketch Shindig come to a close.  Beautiful, isn't it?  Well, in my opinion at least, I saved the best for last.  I went through this phase, (hah, who says I'm over it?), where I would get paper out of extreme boredom and make cootie catchers and insane doodles and what I would pass as a paper airplane...  Good times.  I wish I could say I know how to make paper dolls, but I don't.  Still, I love them, and my making-things-with-paper days inspired me to create a paper doll dress.  Enjoy!
